Metallica logo improved

Turner Duckworth designed the new logotype, album and supporting identity materials for the release of Metallica's new album - Death Magnetic.

Turner Duckworth, the same design consultancy who also designed the new Coca-Cola packaging and won a Cannes Lions Design award for it.

The new logo is not really new, just a refined version of the old one, but it looks way better.

From the press release:
Turner Duckworth re-worked the classic Metallica logo, created a signature typographic style and designed key promotional materials including a flag, a coffin shaped special edition and a vinyl boxed set. A design kit including logos, imagery and graphics was distributed to the band's record companies to produce a vast array of promotional materials around the world.

Update:
On CR Blog you can read an interview with David Turner and Bruce Duckworth about the rebranding of Metallica and you can see more images of the artwork.

Sound of color

If you like music and you like colors also, you will find the new campaign for Gap's Spring 2008 collection very nice.

Gap, the big American clothing company, together with the production company Rehab, approached five bands and singers and asked them to write a song based on a specific colour.
So we have The Blakes with blue, Dntel of The Postal Service with red, Swizz Beats was given green, lovely Marié Digby took on yellow and The Raveonettes opted for black/white.

Once all the songs were completed, five directors took on the job to create videos to accompany them, with just a rule in mind - that the video they create should reflect the colour associated with the track they've been given. The rest was up to the directors.

So as a result we can enjoy a dedicated website - SOUND OF COLOR with all the videos, making ofs, interviews, information about the bands and very useful information about the colours too. Also the songs can be downloaded to be enjoyed offline too (while on the subway maybe).
I like the most Marié Digby's song and also the very simple and nice video.

Great project to promote the Gap brand while promoting some indie artists, simply promoting colors and making original content.
And although I don't buy Gap, I like this kind of stuff and the brand.

Abramovich identity

I just wanted to show you Abramovich's visual identity, designed by PARKLAB. Interesting, clever concept and nice visuals.
Better than Tony Blair's, I think.

Also check out the official Abramovich website. Funny!

Say

A aparut o noua retea retail cu produse telecom, IT, TV si multimedia sub noul brand Say.

Am aflat despre acest nou brand pasind in shop-ul Say din incinta hypermarketului Real, aici in Craiova, ramanand placut surprins de experienta pe care o ofera unui potential cumparator.

Adobe.com redesigns

Adobe redesigned its main website, the Adobe Developer Connection and Design Center. Pretty much everything is new.

This is a major update after acquiring Macromedia (and borrowing the old Macromedia website style and design for their website).

The new design is superior, simple and effective, loads faster and it can hold a lot more info now. Also the new color theme is darker with lots of gray areas so that the content can pop-out of the page easily.

Most of the templates are fixed-width though, not scaling to the content, but everything seems fine and the information is not crowded at all. They could have done better with I.A. because there is a tremendous amount of information on adobe.com and most of it is still hard to find. A search function in the top-right corner comes in handy and I'm glad it was kept just like in the old version.
Lots of Flash, Flex, AJAX put into this release for more functionality.

I really appreciate the new website and will browse more of it daily.

Landor reveals a new website

After Enterprise IG became The Brand Union and undergone a complete rebranding just recently, now Landor updated their corporate website, arriving from a traditional 90's style website to a modern, clean and usable website.

You can now find very quickly the information and mostly their large portfolio of works. Simplified navigation, plus using big type and clever copy, larger images of their work and simple case studies are adding to the overall better website.

Still corporate, but more open and fresh.
I don't know if it was an outside agency involved or if this was an inside job, but definitely the new website is an improvement to Landor's image.

p.s. Observe: the boat drawing in the footer of every page will change when refreshing the website. Details...

The Brand Union

Enterprise IG, one of the best international branding agency, with clients like Vodafone, Credit Suisse or Unilever, has undergone a major rebranding and has become The Brand Union.

Simon Bolton, Worldwide CEO of The Brand Union, announces “This is an important juncture for the company. The new name and positioning takes our network to the next level. I’m pleased with our growth to date, but now I believe we will make a quantum leap.”

From a designer's point of view, this rebranding is quite nice. A push forward with the new logo and brand image.
Also the positioning, behind the concept "Brand Mastery", its stronger for a brand consultancy and is leaving Interbrand or Landor in the open.
I now perceive The Brand Union as the number one player in the branding world. Coming from a third place maybe...

Read the entire article on their News section and also maybe take a look at their blogs.
