Funkyou platform

It seems that the old funkyou.ro website has some new owners and its making a comeback.

Funk You is a platform for experimental graphic design and will be the first magazine of its kind in Eastern Europe. Our aim is to present designers with the opportunity to express themselves without the constraints of a usual designer-client relationship.
Funk You stands for experiments and developing new ideas. Everything is possible and we want to encourage people to try a new way of thinking and creating. Funk You will feature both Romanian and international designers.

The guys at Citrus Design, with Stefan Lucut as an Art Director, are releasing through this new platform a quarterly magazine featuring artists and projects, the Funk You website and forum, a new website - minimalexperimental.com - that will organize monthly graphic design exhibitions, then some workshops and presentations organized three or four times a year.

I'll wait to see what the guys have prepared for us, but for now, all this looks very promising. Nice going guys!

Youtube videos in high quality

We all know the fact that videos on Youtube have bad quality because of high compression and most of them look awful.

Some of the videos on youtube are high quality actually, only they are displayed as a high-compression-low-quality version.

But what if we can see most of them in high quality and really enjoy the details in each video?

Try adding to the url of each video - in the address bar of your browser - this little string: &fmt=18 and see what happens.

It's that easy!

Hillman Curtis released yet again a great short movie, this time featuring the famous design partnership Pentagram.

Paula Scher's initial presentation of Pentagram partner's history is simple beautiful.
And, if I brought her up, she commented recently I don’t think countries should have logos. Logos are for corporations. after being asked by CNTraveller.com to participate in a rebranding exercise for her country of choice and she chose to rebrand Slovenia.

Watch the Pentagram short by Hillman Curtis.
You will like it.

Rsizr

rsizr is a Flash application that lets you resize JPG, PNG, and GIF images on your computer. With rsizr, in addition to normal image rescaling and cropping, you can also resize images using a new image resizing algorithm called seam carving (a method of image retargeting) that tries to keep intact areas in your image that are richer in detail.

A cool online application that might come in handy when you don't have Photoshop or other image editing software available. Quick&dirty style...

After you watch a video on Youtube or Metacafe or any other online video library, maybe you want to keep that video. Most of them can be saved in their original .flv form.

This can be done with the help of websites like Keevid. Just insert the url of the video and you can save the .flv file on your system. But how can you play it after saving?

Well, I found a very nice program that can do just that, both on Mac and Windows platforms.
And sure, Wimpy Desktop FLV Player its free, just like free hugs.

Other ways to keep the videos you watch online, its through online video file converters like Vixy. It works with Youtube.

So there you have it. If you like a video and want to save it for offline view, now you can.

Deezer Music on demand

Deezer is the best thing for online music since Napster.
For the past week, I ignored Winamp or 1.fm entirely!

The concept is simple: free music on demand.

Like they put it:
"Our concept is simple:

-Pay artists and their producers through a revenue share based on our advertising revenues
- Help discovering new artists through a wide audience"

You can find both commercial mainstream and underground or indie artists. Search for them, or browse alphabetically, find the ones you like, then just click on play and listen. Simple, simple concept.

Its all free and legal, paying from advertisements. So click on some ads to support them.
